50th Anniversary Celebration-Let's Party
Nov 9, 2011, 8:37 pm

2012 will mark the 50th Anniversary of Alexander Park Minor Sports Association. From humble beginnings in 1962, the Park has evolved into a place where the Joy of Sport and the Laughter of Children can be seen and heard.

The Executive is planning to mark this milestone in the afternoon of Saturday, June 16th, 2012. We are honoured to have Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher Ferguson Jenkins attend this event. Fergie Jenkins is an Order of Canada Recipient and the only Canadian to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. He recently had a postage stamp issued in his honour recognizing his ongoing contribution to youth and to his many charitable activities. Fergie will help us in a special re-naming ceremony of our four baseball diamonds. They will be re-named after the Park's Four Founding Fathers who made significant contributions over the years to help make Alexander Park the place it is today.

We need you to GET THE WORD OUT. Reconnect with former Coaches and Teamates. Come out and meet a Sports Legend and a real Humanitarian. Help us honour Joe Cheeseman, Roy Grover, Peter Nolan and Aaron Lynes during the renaming ceremonies.

Stay tuned for more details. Lots of fun stuff is being planned

Closing Day Re-Cap
Sep 21, 2011, 9:33 pm

We had a much nicer day for our Closing Ceremonies than our Opening ceremonies (remember that rainy day on June 4th when we all crammed into the Clubhouse for shelter?)

Participation Awards were handed out in all divisions along with various individual achievement awards. Congratulations to all the winners in the various divisions.

Special Thanks goes to Cam Nolan who was the Convenor for both the Mid-Summer & City Finals Mosquito Tournaments which our Park hosted this summer. Our Volunteer of the Year Award winners were the "Dynamic Duo", Rose & Rita ,who have run our Clubhouse operation for the past few years. Congratulations to Sophie who won the draw for the big jar of Candy.

The Executive would like to thank all the Coaches and Volunteers who have put countless hours in this season to help make Alexander Park, a great place to "Play Ball"

Helmets & Baseball Bags
Mar 27, 2011, 11:40 pm

For the 2011 season, the Executive is encouraging parents to purchase a baseball helmet for their child. Many of the Helmets the Association has provided have been roughly used and are wearing out faster than they should. By purchasing your own helmet, this would avoid any potential hygene issues as well. The Association will still have helmets available to players who may have forgotten theirs or who chose not to purchase one.

Helmets are available for sale in the Clubhouse for $22 each

Consider purchasing a baseball bag for your future baseball superstar. These bags can hold several bats and balls. It protects your own personal equipment and makes transporting to and from the field a breeze. We have two sizes available. Our Senior Bag is a $45 retail value in the sports stores. We are selling them for $25. Get them while they last!...The Price is Right!

Junior Baseball Bags are $20 and Senior Bags are $25

Clubhouse News
Jun 29, 2010, 10:12 am

Alexander Park has started a recycling program. Bring back a recyclable item, such as a plastic bottle or pop can, and receive a free candy! We are still accepting donations of cases of water or pop for the Clubhouse. This is our major fundraiser for the Park. Bring in a case and your name will go in a draw for a free 2011 Baseball Registration. We are still selling Baseball Helmets and Bags. Get yours today before they are all gone. Please keep the Park beautiful. Pick up any garbage or recycling you see in the field and put it in its place. We all need to do our part. Support our Sponsors and our Clubhouse. Thank you

Yogi Says....

Yogi Berra's second claim to fame is for being one of the most quoted figures in the sports world. He is credited with coining the deceptively simplistic observation, "It ain't over till it's over." But he's also known for his flubs. Here is a collection of the most notorious of these.

Here is this week's Quote

"I'm not going to buy my kids an encyclopedia. Let them walk to school like I did."
